Absolutely. You do NOT need a CPA license to have an amazing career and career trajectory in the world of accounting. However,
- If you decide against the CPA designation, then that means you are deciding against public accounting (is that correct?), so
- There are many opportunities in accounting besides public accounting - management accounting, internal auditing, corporate finance, and similar positions.
- However, use your early years to be broad as much as possible - learn everything you can. Then start narrowing your interests. Like data science? Then study outside of work. Like forensic accounting? Study outside work. Start a self-study program in the area where you desire to specialize.
